Neil Robert Bersch Obituary
October 15, 1931 - October 8, 2015 Neil R. Bersch passed away at age 83 from complications of Parkinson's Disease, with his family and close friends at his side, on October 8, 2015. He was born in New York, the son of Anne and George. He earned his Bachelor's degree at Dartmouth College, where he competed on the swim team, setting school records in the backstroke. He went on to earn his M.B.A. at the University of Michigan. He moved with his family to Los Angeles in 1960, and he remained a resident of Los Angeles until his passing. He began his career as a C.P.A. specializing in tax, with Touche Ross (which later merged with Deloitte Haskins and Sells), and at age 33 was named the national tax director. When he left public accounting, he worked briefly at the William Morris Agency and then joined Roll Global as Chief Financial Officer. He was also an adjunct professor at the USC Marshall School of Business. Neil had a great passion for thoroughbred horse racing, never missing his Sunday at the track, and he was a co-founder and co-owner of Outpost Stables. He loved baseball and golf, and traveled extensively in his later years. He loved being the family patriarch and was devoted to his six granddaughters and his great-grandson, whom he said was the reason he intended to "stick around" for a great many years. He was loved deeply. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, his sister, Nona, and from a previous marriage his three children (Phyllis, Steven, and Ellen), six grandchildren, a great-grandson, and his beloved dog Morris. Services will be held at Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery on Sunday, October 11, 2015.
