Neill L. Cooney Obituary
May 14, 1928 - September 8, 2015 Hollywood-born, Neill gently passed at 3:45 a.m. on September 8th. Neill's passion was teaching/mentoring- yes, opening and stretching minds to think and live outside of our constricting "thought boxes." Always a lover of Aristotelian thought, Neill never answered a question without posing another. Remember? For 45 years of married life, Neill and Carole patterned their adventures around college, high school and elementary school teaching. Our support for one another's challenges was shaped by our true love for one another, as Aristotle says, "Love is wishing the very best for the other person." Our life journey took us up and down many paths: Cuba, Russia, Greece, Switzerland, England, Italy and of course, Ireland. And then there were the side trips camping under the desert stars, or rushing out of a campsite in a downpour with Neill laughing uproariously. Florence, Oregon was a haven of delight for relaxation and fun - But! The teaching never stopped. Adult and children's classes were free for all and lovingly attended. During the last three years, even though Neill's body was never pain free, his great joy was teaching around the dining room table twice a week, a Men's Philosophy Group and "Women's Wisdom taught by the Wise Guy". As our minds swirl and fill with the magic of Neill's endearing wisdom and charm, let us be inspired by his words, "I have lived a good Life." Let us carry on his legacy as we continue to "live a good life."
