Nena Chandler Obituary
November 8, 1913 - March 24, 2016 Nena was born in Los Angeles, Ca., to John Canella and Josephine Celoni. Nena was a former Miss Italy and professional dancer who appeared in films and onstage dancing her favorite Rhumba. Her beautiful face was featured in an opening shot of Rick's Cafe in the film, Casablanca. Nena's stepfather was famed composer T. Marvin Hatley who wrote the music for the Laurel and Hardy ("Cukoo" song) comedies and was musical conductor of Hal Roach studios in the 1930's. During WW 2 Nena met her future husband, the late Joseph W. Chandler, former presiding judge of Santa Monica Municipal Court. They raised their 2 daughters in Encino, Ca. She was a devoted wife, mother and loved her pet dogs. Nena was known for her beauty, style and sweetness. She will be missed by family members who survive her: daughters Julie and Suzanne Chandler, grandson Christopher Prettyman, cousins Carlo Celoni and Geri Love and nephew Gary Palmquist. Memorial services pending.
