Nikolaos Koutouratsas Obituary
October 16, 1926 - June 21, 2016 Nikolaos I. Koutouratsas, 89, passed away peacefully in Santa Ynez, California on June 21, 2016. He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Dorothy Siringhaus Koutouratsas and is survived by his daughters Lisa (Tim) Conner, Lori Koutouratsas and Linda (David) Shier and his grandchildren, Nikolaos, Alexander, Zachary, Kia, Katherine, Ryan and Steven. Nick was born in Florina, Greece in 1926, attended the Greek Military Medical School in Thessaloniki and moved to the United States to complete his residency in Radiology at Geissinger Medical Center in Pennsylvania. He met his wife Dorothy, a nurse, and they married in 1960 in Athens, Greece. They soon returned to the US to raise their daughters and eventually settled in Santa Monica in 1965. Nick practiced medicine at Santa Monica Hospital and later UCLA/Santa Monica until his retirement in 1991. As a young man, Nick was fascinated with the violin and spent most of his life pursuing his love of music. He was an accomplished violinist and soloist with the Los Angeles Doctor's Orchestra. He practiced his violin every night after work, performed at countless recitals and played with a variety of musical groups in the greater Los Angeles area. He was immensely proud of his Greek heritage and loved recounting all of Greece's contributions to society. He had a silly sense of humor and a relentless sweet tooth. Nick, however, will best be remembered for his kindness and generosity toward everyone he met. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Olympia Philharmonic Society, 465 W. LeRoy Avenue, Arcadia, CA 91007-7306.
