Nina Ellen CRIPPEN Obituary
October 29, 1926 - December 17, 2015 Nina Crippen died in Pasadena, CA, at the age of 89. Nina is survived by her two sons (and daughters-in-law) Richard (Lynn) and Robert (Kathryn), her grandsons Ryan, Tyler, and Andrew, her great-grandson Jaden, and her brothers Harold and Ed. Nina is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Jack, and her eldest siblings, Frank, Meda, and Doris. Nina was born in Seattle, WA, and attended Roosevelt High School during World War II. Nina and her family were featured in the Seattle newspaper with a full-page article detailing how the family supported the war effort on the home front and with her older brothers in the Army in Europe and Navy in the Pacific. Soon after the war she married Jack, the brother of one of her best friends, Jill Crippen. She worked as an executive secretary at Sunshine Biscuit Company while supporting her husband's attainment of a degree in geography at the University of Washington, on their way to building a family. Jack, Nina, and sons lived in a new house in the Crown Hill area of Seattle before Jack's work for Union Oil Company (and later Texaco) brought the family to the Torrance, CA, area and another newly built home. When both sons had left Van Deene Avenue Elementary School, Nina went to work there as a playground director and occasional office staff assistant for many years. In retirement, Jack and Nina traveled widely, especially in Europe and Latin America, and celebrated their 50th anniversary on a cruise around the South China Sea. Nina's many friends will remember her smile and steady good nature. Her sons, especially, will always feel her love.
