Norman Horowitz Obituary

Horowitz, Norman H.
Distinguished geneticist, Mars researcher, and biology professor, died June 1 in Pasadena, aged 90. Born 1915 in Pittsburgh, Norman earned his Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology in 1939, joined the faculty there in 1946, and remained active at Caltech long past his retirement in 1982. A deeply ethical and thoughtful man, Norman never lost his belief in the power of knowledge and discovery to improve the human condition. He was the devoted husband of the late Pearl Shykin Horowitz, his wife of 45 years; the proud father of Liz and Joel; and the affectionate grandfather of Katharine and Daniel. Two brothers, Melvin and Robert, died previously. A memorial service will be held this fall at Caltech. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Univ. of Pittsburgh, Norman H.
