Patricia Elaine Sakalis Obituary
December 29, 1933 - October 4, 2016 After a short illness, Patricia Elaine Sakalis passed away peacefully on October 4, 2016 at the age of 82. She was surrounded by family and friends. Patricia grew up in Los Angeles, the only daughter of Ione and Hugh McMullen. She attended Garfield High School and later worked for Texaco Oil Company where she made many life-long friends. On July 7, 1957, Patricia married Thomas Sakalis, who became her husband for 59 years. They settled in Whittier, California where they had two daughters, Valerie Ann and Stacy Elaine. In 1969, Pat and Tom moved to Brea, California where they have made their home ever since. Patricia loved to travel and made sure that her daughters were able to see the world. She and Stacy traveled extensively through Europe and Mexico while she sent Valerie to study abroad on "Semester at Sea" while she was attending USC. Pat and Tom were lifelong USC fans and also enjoyed traveling with family and friends cruising through Europe and Hawaii or just relaxing in Mexico. They especially loved going to Greece with their daughter's families to show them where Tom's family was from. A travel highlight for them came when they purchased a time share in Puerto Vallarta. It provided a wonderful setting for family to come together for a week each year, creating many wonderful memories along the way. Recently, Pat travelled to the Bahamas for a family wedding and cruised Alaska with her daughters and granddaughters. Some of her most proud moments were traveling near and far to visit her grandchildren at college. Above anything, Patricia loved her family. She was selfless in her love and support of her daughters and grandchildren. From having Santa come to the house for a personal visit before Christmas to making every birthday special she always put her family first. Her life is now her legacy and these family traditions will live on in her memory. Most poignant was the way Patricia lived her life. She was strong willed and never shied away from a challenge. She personified elegance, grace and confidence. At the time of her passing she was again the strong beautiful woman she had been her entire life, passing away with dignity, grace and most important on her terms. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her. Patricia was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Sakalis and is survived by her daughters Stacy Bennett and Valerie Black, son-in-law, Chuck Black and grandchildren, Lauren Bennett, Clay Bennett, Stephanie Black, Chuck Black, Kimberly Black, and Christine Black. A graveside service will be held at Rose Hills Mortuary, Saturday, November 12, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the or the World Wildlife Fund.
