Patty (Mintzer) Ellis Obituary

June 2, 1917 - December 18, 2015 Patty Ellis passed away on December 18, 2015. She was 98 years old. Pearl Mintzer was born in Chicago, Illinois to Romanian-born William Mintzer and Ellie Solomovitz. Patty is survived by her two sons Donald and Rick Toomim, sister Maurine Bloom, daughter-in-law Roberta Michaels, two grandsons, Michael and Jonathan Toomim and a beloved granddog, Hanna. Patty was passionate about art. She loved to create sculpture in stone and in wood. If you visited her apartment, you would see that she surrounded herself with artwork of all kinds that was either collected from her travels around the world or made by her or her beloved husband Rafe Ellis. Patty was married to Hershel Toomim and Dave Cohen before she found her soulmate, fellow artist, Rafe Ellis. It was with Rafe that Patty found true happiness. After Rafe passed away, Patty enjoyed a deep friendship with Holocaust survivor Len Perry. At age 96, she remarked that always before relocating to Oregon, she had always had a companion. Patty attributed her long life to a weekly regiment of exercising in the pool. She enjoyed soaking in a hot pool for a few minutes before joining an aqua class. Until age 96, she attended 2-3 weekly water arthritis classes at the Mittleman Jewish Community Center in Portland, Oregon. A memorial for Patty Ellis will be held at the Windjammer Yacht Club 13589 Mindanao Way, Marina Del Rey on Sunday, January 3rd, 10:00-1:00 p.m. We welcome anyone who knew Patty to join us.
