Paul D. Wise Obituary
August 31, 1941 - December 10, 2015 Paul D. Wise, Professional Land Surveyor, born August 31, 1941 in Los Angeles, died in his home on December 10, 2015 in the presence of his family. He was 74. Mr. Wise is survived by his wife, the former Catotje (Cathy) D. Montolalu; twin children Susan Wise of Lompoc, Calif., and David Wise of Berlin, Germany; and brother Richard Wise of Lompoc, Calif.; as well as two grandchildren, David Goodman and James Goodman, both of Lompoc, Calif. In a civil engineering career that spanned 53 years, he made valuable and lasting contributions to California infrastructure. After attending Pasadena City College and Santa Ana College, he started out as a Hydrographic Surveyor for Orange County in 1962, and went on to work in right-of-way engineering for roads, harbors, beaches, and parks, as well as flood control. After a brief period working for public works departments in Redmond and Seattle, Wash., he returned to the Southland to serve as a County Surveyor for Orange County. From the mid-1980s onward, he became involved with the Metro Rail project as a Right-of-Way Engineer, working with various engineering firms such as Parsons Brinckerhoff. His work was highly valued by colleagues and city officials alike, and he contributed important engineering to the Blue and Red Lines, and the Gold Line to Pasadena. Above all, he was devoted to his family. His kindness, generosity, and steadfast support will be remembered by everyone who knew him.
