Paul David Porter Obituary
April 24, 1936 - February 19, 2017 Paul David Porter was born in Los Angeles, in his family home, to Zella Mae Chambers and Edward Cleveland Porter. Known as Dave to most, he was the youngest of six siblings including Howard, Chuck, Frank, Peggy and Udora. Never one to stay idle, young Dave navigated Los Angeles via the Red Car system seeking family, friends fun, and a wee bit of mischief. He graduated from Alhambra H.S. and Pasadena College of Nazarene, now Point Loma University. He served honorably in the US Navy. He then earned his teaching credential and taught Math, Geography and Drivers Ed while coaching basketball and track and field at Bell Gardens H.S., where he met lifetime friends and teaching buddies Ron, Don and Wally. Real estate investment became his passion, and allowed him to live in Newport Beach for most of his adult life. Self-named 'Bullet Dave' as he described his body surfing ability riding the waves. He loved gardening and physical labor. He could be found walking the Newport boardwalk most days, and later in life carried a putty knife to remove stickers, doing his part to keep NB neat and tidy. His love of sports lasted his lifetime. Whether playing or spectating, he followed many sports but was especially fond of basketball. He revered Jerry West, Wilt the Stilt and John Wooden. He was a true Lakers fan and could be found in front of the TV cheering on his team. A devout Christian, he attended church regularly. He believed he was placed on this earth to help others and was a generous person to those he saw as less fortunate. Dave was predeceased by his wife Kathy. He is survived by his children from his previous marriage: Robin (Lisa), Barry (Aimee) and grandchildren Hailey, Grayson and Hudson.
