1935 - 2017 Paul Francis Wells, 82, of McMinnville, OR formerly of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Los Angeles, Calif., passed away at Rock of Ages Nursing Home on Oct. 23. He was born Aug. 21, 1935 in Pittsburgh to Dr. Richard D. and Mary Elizabeth Wells. Paul was the fourth of seven children and graduated from Central Catholic High School. He briefly attended St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa. and the University of Pittsburgh prior to joining the U.S. Army where he served in Korea as a cryptologist. Following his service in the Army, he returned to Pittsburgh and started to work in the insurance industry. He met his first wife, Grace Sullivan, with whom they had seven children. In 1965 they moved to the Los Angeles area where he worked as an insurance broker for his own agency and then several large insurance brokerages. In 1978 he married his second wife, Judith (Corbett) Wells. They divorced in 1982. Judy was reunited with her soul mate in 1996. In the early 1990's Paul was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. During this time, he wrote and published a crossword puzzle dictionary, "World of Words." Paul's favorite thing in the world was baseball and his beloved Pittsburgh Pirates. He played baseball in his early years and was taught by former Pirates and Hall of Famers, Honus Wagner and Harold Joseph "Pie" Traynor. He also enjoyed listening to American tenor, Mario Lanza. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela, parents, Richard and Mary, brothers Richard, Robert, Edward, Joseph and sister, Judith (Drgon). He is survived by his second wife Judy, first wife, Grace, brother Francis (Joan) of Columbia, S.C. sons Paul of Ontario, Calif., Parris (girlfriend, Evelia Gonzales), of Los Angeles, Erik (Natalie Tennant) of Charleston, W.Va., Blake (Michelle) of Porter Ranch, Calif., and daughters Krista Beyer (Jeffery) of Las Vegas, Nev., and Brooke Faigin (Robert) of Lakeside, Calif. Also surviving are his grandchildren Caleb, Delaney, Aurora, Tyler and Hailey. The family thanks Rock of Ages and Legacy Hospice of McMinnville for their wonderful and loving care, especially Isabel, Paula, Dawn, Toby, Nadia and all the other dedicated and loving people who cared for him along with Dr. Michael Miller from St. James Church. Interment will be at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Culver City, Calif. with a private graveside service.
