Paul Goldenberg Obituary
With a heavy heart we announce the passing of our dearly beloved Paul Goldenberg, who died on 13 August 2015, surrounded by family and loved ones. Paul was born in April 1928 in Los Angeles, California. His father was Joseph Goldenberg and his mother was Rebecca Goldenberg. He started out as a photographer in the U.S. Army. A successful businessman, he founded Paul's TV, and was widely and affectionately known as 'the King of Big Screen.' It began as a small TV repair shop (Coast TV) on Vermont Avenue in Hollywood in the 1950's, and he built it into the largest, single-store television retailer in the United States. His business success enabled him to touch many lives as a philanthropist. Following his retirement, he put his all into philanthropy; he always said that he was prouder of his philanthropic work than of his business success. With a generous and caring heart, he supported those he loved and those in need, including family, friends and strangers. Paul was a car enthusiast, with a passion for powerful engines and Ferraris. He was politically active and nurtured friendships with a multitude of local, state and national politicians, including U.S. Presidents. He was crazy about classic films and musicals and would light up a room or a face with a famous movie line or song. He was a charming storyteller. Paul is survived by his son, Douglas Goldenberg (Stacey Goldenberg), his granddaughter Lucy Goldenberg and Douglas' mother, Carol Toni Goldenberg. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in memory of Paul to the Los Angeles Jewish Home or the City of Hope.
