January 16, 1938 - November 4, 2017 Paul died peacefully at home surrounded by his family Saturday evening, November 4, 2017. Paul was born in Denver, Colorado, the youngest child of Sarah Weintraub and Samuel Cohen. He had two older sisters Millie Levine and Peggy Heinemann. He lived in Denver on the West Side until he came to San Francisco on March 1, 1963. Rita, his loving wife, was the first person he met in California. They married in April 1966 and had two children David and Stacy. In November 1970 they moved to Los Angeles for business. He worked for years in sporting goods, becoming a top salesman. He started investing in real estate as a side business, and this became his full time career until he retired. Even when experiencing hard times, Paul always worked hard, never giving up and taking on new challenges. He was a loyal businessman and friend. He was successful in both business and relationships. Once retired, he pursued his dream of continuing his education and joined the Plato Society, both as a student and educator. Paul had amazing charm and quirky sense of humor. Paul loved his family. He researched his genealogy and found long lost relatives and arranged family reunions. His nickname was Pinky and his nieces and nephews called him Uncle Pinky. In fact they joked that only "G-d and Uncle Pinky" knew everything. He and Rita loved to travel and they took many trips with great friends and relatives. Paul fought cancer for over 40 years. His humor, optimism and positive attitude enabled him to live an enriched life. He was active in the community, Temple Israel of Hollywood, The Los Feliz Jewish Center and numerous other Jewish organizations. He loved music, Israel, history and politics. He loved his friends including his Denver and Boys Nite Out groups. His many relatives and friends will dearly miss him. Paul is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Rita, beloved children, David Cohen (Dina) and Stacy Cohen (Christopher), and his loving granddaughters Lexi Cohen, Sarah Davidson and Emma Cohen. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 9 at 10:30 AM Temple Beth Hillel, 12326 Riverside Dr., Los Angeles, CA 91607.
