April 11, 1934 - June 11, 2015 Paul Rowbotham, 81 succumbed to heart failure on June 11, 2015 at UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center. He is survived by children Jeanne Rowbotham Scola, Robert Rowbotham and grandchildren Dean, Katie Ann, AJ and Paul, and partner of 15 years Gail Mackey. Paul is an original Santa Monica Bad Ass born and raised. His alma maters include Franklin Elementary, Lincoln Junior High, and SAMO High. Single mother Susan Ann raised Paul and his sister Ann. Paul started delivering The Evening Outlook while in elementary school to help support the family and worked everyday the rest of his life as his expertise was continuously called upon. In 1953 Paul enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard, he was stationed in Alaska. After his honorable discharge in 1960, he took a full time job at Wilson Vallely Towing. Paul and his wife Beverly Ann became the driving force of what would soon become the preeminent towing company of Southern California. His skill set allowed him to build a fleet of trucks that had an unrivaled diversity of capabilities as well as train his crew thoroughly in the skill of towing. He thought three dimensionally in a two dimensional world. Paul fabricated tools as needed; he invented equipment and techniques that are still used throughout the industry to this day. At 6'4" Paul was larger than life, there was a never a room he did not command with his presence and charm. With piercing blue eyes and sharp wit he captured the ladies attention and garnered respect and envy from common gents. The world has lost a great man, a true classic.
