June 30, 1926 - August 19, 2015 Born in Los Angeles to Robert and Edith Cooper, died at home cared for by his family. Graduate of Mount Carmel High. Enlisted in Navy at 17, served as Electronics Technician Mate 2 aboard destroyer USS Philip. Decorated WWII veteran of Asiatic Pacific Campaign, China Service, and Post-War Occupation Service. Survived first wife Sarah (Mazzarese). In 1960 married Betty Lou Novis (Kerr). Together they raised eight children: Mike (Brenda), Steve (Janet), Gino (Carol), Tom (Marsha), Vernette (Chuck), Paulette (Fred), Jim (Jill), and Ray (Laura). Loving grandfather of Suzanne (Mark), Matthew (Gina), Andrew (Hilary), Ashleigh (Steve), Daniel, Lizzy, Ryan, Julian, Veronica, and Madison, and great-grandfather of Joshua, Sarah, Alissa, Savannah, Patrick, Henry, and Grant. World-class dad, husband, uncle, friend, neighbor, log-cabin builder, and gourmet cook. A pioneering engineer in Space Communications at Hughes Aircraft, he could make anything work, from the Surveyor moon landing to a 1970 VW van. "Tender as my heart."
