April 10, 1913 - November 29, 2013 Pearlie Mae O. Delaney, 100, acclaimed educator and pianist, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 29 in Long Beach, CA. She passed away from natural causes while holding the hands of her loving niece and grand niece. Pearlie received her BA from Rust College in Holly Springs, MS and later her MA in Education from USC, as one of few African Americans attending at that time. Pearlie taught K-6 in MS and at the 76TH Street Elementary School in LA for over 40 years until her retirement. As a classical pianist, she also trained aspiring young pianists. Pearlie leaves behind her loving Grand niece, Tonja Wicks of Long Beach, niece, Elizabeth Wicks, a number of nephews, and a host of relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her father, Joe, mother Corine, husband Bill, daughter Gloria, and siblings Ora Dee, Anne Lee, Lavordia, Willie, Timothy and Howard. Pearlie's Funeral service will be Friday, December 6 at 10AM at the Garden of Chimes Chapel, Inglewood Park Cemetery, 720 E. Florence Ave. Inglewood, CA 90301. Visitation will be on Thursday, December 5 from 3PM-8PM at the Inglewood Cemetery Mortuary, 3801 West Manchester Blvd. Inglewood, CA 90305.
