Peggy Lund Hayek Obituary
July 31, 1931 - September 20, 2015 Mrs. Peggy Lund Hayek, of La Canada, California, passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2015, after a long and brave battle against cancer. At her side were her three beloved children, Barbara, Julie and Edwin. Born in 1931 and raised in rural Montana, Peggy began life without much in the way of every day luxuries-such as running water or electricity. Because of this, Peggy developed an indefatigable energy and relentless determination. She graduated from the University of Minnesota, and also earned her Master's Degree in education from UCLA. And through all of this, Peggy still managed to raise three children as a single parent. She was a valued and beloved high school teacher and counselor at Verdugo Hills HS. Known for her sharpness of wit, penetrating questions, and undeniable spirit, Peggy taught and influenced hundreds of youngsters throughout the years. When Peggy eventually retired, she continued to give back to the community. As a long-time volunteer docent at three Los Angeles Museums, Peggy recently received the distinction of her 15-year-pin from the Getty Museum. A trailblazer to the end, enjoying her red Corvette, traveling all over the world, winning numerous medals for cooking and baking at the LA County Fair, Peggy cherished being with her family and four grandchildren. A treasure to us all, and a true "one-of-a-kind," Peggy Hayek exemplified that which she was heard to say many times: "It's better to have one dynamite parent then two mediocre ones."
