Phillip Stevens Obituary
August 11, 1927 - September 25, 2016 What a life! Phil was born in a home in Cleveland, OH, the youngest of six children. He was a WWII Army veteran of the Army Air Corps. Graduated from Miami U. of Ohio and attended Case Western Reserve Law School. Out of school, he entered the GM executive training program in Detroit, then decided to head out to sunny CA and worked for Ford and Litton. In the 1960s, he started GEM Furniture with Kal Krause and turned it into a successful company. Later, he owned Meyerson Fabrics and Fourwood Corp., a leading mfg. rep. firm in the wood and steel industries. He was a pioneer in the western U.S. furniture supply industry, and along with colleagues, built the industry trade show from a couple of tables in the basement of the Ambassador Hotel to filling up the L.A. and Anaheim convention centers. Phil was also a former president of the AWFS and supporter of the City of Hope. Loving husband of 57 years to "Murch," father to sons Mike and Josh, daughter-in-law Nancy, and loving Papa to grandchildren Zoe, Nicholas and Kaitlyn. Over the years, he enjoyed golfing and playing cards with his PVCC friends, socializing with furniture industry friends, telling numerous stories and attending Lakers, Rams and Dodgers games. He traveled the world with family as well as childhood friends. A private event is planned. Donations may be made in his honor to your choice of charities.
