Ralph DiMeglio Obituary
April 13, 1926 - September 28, 2016 Ralph Di Meglio, 90, passed away in St. John's Hospital on September 28, 2016. He was born in San Pedro, California, where he grew up in a neighborhood of Italian and Slavic immigrants and developed life long friends who called themselves the "13th Street Dogs." He fought in World War II with the 43rd Infantry Division and was awarded the Bronze Star for combat in the Phillipines. He was among the first occupational forces to enter Japan after the signing of the Peace Treaty. Ralph retired as a First Lieutenant from the US Army Reserve in 1954. As a Licensed Public Accountant, his first employment was for Shell and Sunset Oil companies. In 1958, Ralph started working for H.C. Henshey Department Store in Santa Monica, working his way up from Office Manager to President. He sat on the Board of Directors of Century Federal Savings. Ralph resided in Santa Monica for 55 years and was a long time member of Kiwanis. He was also active in the Chamber of Commerce and the Santa Monica Boys Club. He enjoyed playing golf and poker with his buddies and traveled widely, especially to Sorrento, Italy, his mother's birthplace. Ralph leaves his wife of 67 years, Jacqueline, and five children; Mary (Richard), Christina, Angela, Stephen, and Jeanne (Russell), eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and his sister, Dana. He is predeceased by his son, R. Daniel.
