Ramona B. Smith Obituary
January 22, 1920 - April 22, 2016 At 96 years of age Ramona Basabe Smith passed away on the morning of April 22, 2016 at home, surrounded by love. Born on January 22, 1920, she was raised by her Basque parents Juan Baptiste and Escolastica Basabe on an orange grove ranch in Fullerton, CA. Her first husband was Charles Bartholomae and they had a child together. On January 7, 1947 Ramona married E. Morris Smith and moved to Lido Island in Newport Beach where they shared over 50 years of love together and had two children. They raised all three children in the home on Lido and Ramona lived there for over 70 years. She was an avid tennis player and swimmer. Ramona was rarely seen without a smile on her face. She loved life and was widely known for her warmth, elegance and stunning beauty. Still spunky at 95, Ramona drove her convertible around town like the racecar driver she always dreamed of being. She is survived by her three children: Cita Bartholomae Litt, Chip Smith and his wife Victoria Smith and Anita Smith Lawson and her husband Ken Lawson and her grandchildren: Maria Bell, Nick Smith, Tori Cruz, Chelsea Litsey and Ian Lawson and her great-grandchildren: Sabrina and Liam Bell. Ramona asked that no services be held but to rather do as she always insisted, "You go have fun." So we encourage all of you to celebrate her life by passing on her kindness to those you meet. Always smile and find joy in each day.
