Raymond Klauer Obituary
September 23, 1931 - July 28, 2016 Raymond "Jimmy" Klauer, 84, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2016. Ray, the only child of Florence and Raymond Klauer, was born in 1931 in Spokane, Washington. He grew up in Los Angeles and joined the Air Force after graduating from high school in 1949. Ray married Jo Ann Roy in 1953 and moved to Biloxi, Mississippi where Ray was stationed following a tour in Korea. After the first of their five children arrived, they moved back to Los Angeles and Ray rejoined May Co. department store where he had worked while in high school. Ray was with May Co. for 35 years as a stock boy, merchandiser, store manager, and President of both May Co. Cleveland and May Co. California before becoming Vice Chairman of May Dept. Stores Corp. Ray retired from May Co. at age 52 and began his next career. He helped create The Fashion Channel, assisted with Executive Recruiting and held various consulting positions. Ray loved his work but more importantly, he loved the people and the people loved him. His witty sense of humor and outgoing charm made him immediate friends with everyone he met, and his genuine interest in people drew him to the center of every meeting and event. Ray saw the humor in everything. His classic one liners, jokes and plays on words are his legacy and will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure to know him. Ray loved to travel; fish; play golf, tennis & cards; entertain; spend time on his boat and drive his vast collection of classic and luxury cars. He became active with the Porsche Club and the Aston Martin Owners Club; and he participated in both the California Mille and Melbourne Mille vintage car rallies. His passion for travel brought him and Jo Ann to over 50 countries around the world. Ray is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Jo Ann, their children Judy Knecht (Doug), Susan Carter (Dan), Jim Klauer (Carla), Kathy Donahue, John Klauer (Sherie), and 11 grandchildren. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 18th at 10:00 am at Church of the Good Shepherd (504 N. Roxbury Dr., Beverly Hills, CA 90210) with a reception following at the Bel Air Country Club (10768 Bellagio Rd., Los Angeles, CA 90077). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ray's memory to St. Vincent Meals on Wheels, 2303 Miramar Street, Los Angeles, CA 90057 or Childhelp, Greater LA Chapter, 4350 East Camelback Road, Bldg F250, Phoenix, AZ 85018.
