Richard Gilbert Guymon Obituary
May 21, 1923 - August 29, 2015 Richard Gilbert Guymon, 92, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2015 surrounded by his children with music, love and gratitude for the exemplary life he lived. He was born to Richard Nathan and Laure Gilberte Brodbeck Guymon on May 21, 1923 in Huntington Park, California. He lived most of his life in California where he enjoyed the outdoors and the beach. Richard had an innate sense of right and wrong and lived his life with high moral standards and integrity. A modest, humble, and dashingly handsome gentleman, he referred to himself as a "curious fellow" because he loved to learn. Among his many interests and talents was a passion for music that included playing the ukulele and piano and continually singing in the ward choir. He loved sports, gardening, hiking, art, and people. He was fascinated and genuinely interested in all of his brothers and sisters because "we are all God's children with a spark of divinity within us." Richard served our country in the U.S. Army Air Forces during WW II and was stationed in England. He received the Purple Heart and returned home to an education at USC. While there, he soon won the heart of a beautiful, vivacious young woman from Panaca, Nevada who was attending rival UCLA. Richard and Edna Jenalyn Mathews were married on December 18, 1948 and were sealed for time and all eternity on July 18, 1951 in the LDS Manti Utah Temple. Richard and Jenalyn raised their four children in Canoga Park, California while they both served as educators in the Los Angeles school district. He was an elementary school teacher and later an inner-city principal. He touched the lives of countless people with his infectious smile and dedicated church service wherever called, including home teaching 13 families with Mom, serving as bishop of the Canoga Park 2nd Ward, and being an ordinance worker in the Los Angeles Temple for 16 years. As his children, we will always be grateful for Dad's love for our mother and for the secure, loving and faith-filled home both Dad and Mom provided for our family. Richard Gilbert Guymon was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his brother Warren, one granddaughter, two great-granddaughters, and his son-in-law. Richard is survived by his children: Richard (Sallie), Ronald (Kim), Carolyn Walker (David, deceased), and Jenalyn Morden (Trot). He will also be greatly missed by 25 grandchildren, and 85 great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held at noon and services at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at the Panaca, Nevada meetinghouse. Condolences may be sent to www.warenski.com.
