Richard "Dick" Landis Obituary
June 14, 1921 - December 12, 2017 After a great life of 96 ½ years, our beloved husband, father, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones. Son of Gussie and Max Leibchik, Dick was born and raised in the Bronx, until his family moved to Los Angeles in 1937 where he attended Belmont High School and Wiggins Trade School. He worked briefly as an electrician for Lockheed before enlisting in the Navy Air Force as a radar technician at the Guadalcanal Airfield. He then tested into the Officer's Training Program at USC where he completed his B.S. in Electrical Engineering. He married Phyllis Krauss, and they had two children, Barbara and Gary. After a long and distinguished career at Hughes Aircraft, Dick founded Cal State Electronics. Phyllis passed away in 1973. In 1985, Dick married Eileen Swartz and they travelled the world from their home base in Marina del Rey. Along with Eileen, Dick is survived by his sister in law Edith, son Gary (Julie), stepchildren Debby (Jacob Segura), David Tipp (Cheri), Steven Tipp (Wendy) and Robert Tipp (Vicky) along with many treasured nephews and nieces, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dick will be treasured in our memories as a conscientious applicator, a pragmatist, a thinker, and a good, kind, fair man who loved life. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the California Science Center and the Museum of Tolerance
