Richard Lewis Foulger Obituary
October 15, 1931 - January 14, 2017 Richard (Dick) Foulger died at home with his loving wife of 55 years, Gretchen, and their son, Michael, by his side from complications of type 1 diabetes on January 14, 2017. Richard was preceded in death by their son, Christopher, and is survived by his devoted wife and son, half-sister DeAnn Dayton, and sister-in-law Diana Menkes. Born in Long Beach to Ora and Lew Foulger, Richard grew up in Whittier, attended Whittier High School where he discovered his love of playing water polo. After graduation, he continued on to Compton Junior College to further his pursuit of playing water polo, then went to USC and played 2 years of water polo before graduating with a Business degree in 1955. While attending USC, he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity and joined the ROTC program. Upon graduation, he was commissioned and served as an officer in the Marine Corps for two years. Following his military service, he worked for Lincoln Savings and Loan for 24 years. Then, he spent the next 11 years working in property management for Coldwell Banker and Trammel Crow. Richard enjoyed his life, working, raising his two sons and traveling. His most memorable trip was a guided tour to Normandy to see the beaches of D-Day. In retirement, he enjoyed playing tennis, watching tennis, following USC football and many other sports; along with watching movies, especially the old classic movies and musicals he so loved. Donations would be welcome in his memory, to USC Water Polo, c/o Coach Jovan Vavic, Los Angeles, CA 90089-0602 or Joslin Diabetes Center, 50-Year Medalist Study, 1 Joslin Place Room 378, Boston, MA 02215.
