Richard Maitin Obituary
September 22, 1930 - May 30, 2016 Dr. Richard Maitin was born on September 22, 1930 in Canton, Ohio. He graduated from the Ohio State University Dental School in 1955. He joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific theater as a Lieutenant USN Dental Corps from 1956 to 1958. In 1950 he met the love of his life, Harriet Shusterman. They married in 1957 and settled in the San Fernando Valley. Dr. Maitin started his dental practice in Van Nuys in 1960 and in 1996 he moved his office to Encino. He also became a Faculty Instructor Restorative Dentistry at UCLA Dental School where he taught several days a week until April, 2016. His students and patients loved him for his patience, knowledge, kindness and love for dentistry and his devotion to his work. He treasured his family and friends and always made himself available to anyone who needed dental work, no matter what time of the day or night. Many of his patients marveled at how gentle he was and how relaxed he made them feel. He passed away peacefully at his home in the presence of his wife, Harriet on May 30, 2016. He is survived by two sons, Robert and his wife Tracy and Matthew as well as his two beloved grandsons, Adam and Jeremy. Services will be held on Friday, June 3 at 11:30 at Mount Sinai Memorial Park, 5950 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles, California.
