August 25, 1924 - January 10, 2016 A lifelong Californian and a 50 year resident of Los Altos Hills, CA, Bob Harrison passed away at his home at the Vi, Palo Alto, CA due to congestive heart failure at the age of 91. Bob was born in Hermosa Beach, CA, his family's summer home, to Olive Mae Phillips and Benjamin Demas Harrison. His mother was a Rose Princess in 1905. A resident of Altadena, CA, he graduated from Eliot Junior School in 1940 where he was President of the student body. He then attended Pasadena Junior College for his last 2 years of high school, graduating in 1942 after serving as President of his senior class. He enrolled in UC Berkeley, but after his freshman year his college education was interrupted when he enlisted as a navigator in the Army Air Force during World War II. Bob returned to Berkeley after the War, graduating with a BS from the Business School in 1948. He was an active member of the Alpha Delta Phi fraternity. After graduating from college he started a mortgage banking company, Harrison-Wilson Company, in Palo Alto, CA. A founder of the San Francisco Bay Area Mortgage Association, he served as President of that organization from 1955 to 1956. In 1967 he built Sylvan Square Apartments located in Mountain View, CA, which continue to be family owned. In retirement Bob focused on his investments, actively investing in stocks both individually and with the investment club Profits Unlimited. He enjoyed many years of tennis at Foothills Tennis & Swimming Club, golf at Menlo Country Club, sailing, duck hunting in Los Banos, fly fishing in Alaska and extensive international travel. Playing dominos, collecting California plein air art and California wines were favorite pastimes. He enjoyed many summers, including 2015, as well as winter skiing at his vacation home in Glenbrook, Lake Tahoe, NV. Bob's first wife Jean Bryan Harrison, a UCLA graduate, and youngest daughter Katie Harrison both passed away in 1995. His older sister Margaret Harrison Cory predeceased him in 2014. Bob is survived by his second wife of 19 years, Mary Ives Harrison, his daughter Pat Harrison of Altadena, CA, his daughter Liz Harrison Gleason, her husband Steve Gleason and grandson Bryan Gleason all of San Marino, CA. Bob will be remembered for his sense of humor, lifelong friends, optimism, easy going attitude and a knack for living life well. A private family gathering will be held to commemorate his life.
