Robert Charles Greene Obituary

August 14, 1952 - December 26, 2015 Robert Charles Greene died after a battle with lung cancer at age 63. He was born in New York City and christened by Reverend Norman Vincent Peale, author of "The Power of Positive Thinking." Some of that philosophy must have rubbed off on Robert. Even during the darkest periods of his life, he found some good. Robert spent his childhood in Westport, Connecticut, and moved to Santa Monica, CA in 1967. He attended Samohi and Santa Monica College, after which he did a tour of duty in the U.S. Navy. In his early 20's Robert developed schizophrenia. Fortunately, Step-Up-On-Second proved to be a haven for him. That was his home from 1984 when it was founded, until his death. Robert always had great compassion for the homeless. Using a tape recorder, he interviewed homeless people in Santa Monica, Venice and Skid Row, and compiled these interviews into a book titled "Cardboard Condo". It is currently available on Amazon. He leaves behind his mother and step-father, Lorraine and Christopher Knopf; his sister, Laura Hunter; brother, Andrew Gamsu; and step-sister, Susan St. Clair, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom were very dear to him.
