Robert Charles Howard Obituary
June 6, 1923 - November 9, 2016 Robert "Bob" Charles Howard, 93, passed peacefully on November 9, 2016. Bob is survived by his wife, Ruth, whom he often called the woman of his dreams. He is also survived by five children from his first wife, Patricia: Sharon, Guila, Hal, Kim, Hugh, and their spouses. He was grandfather to Ariel, Christine, Scott, and Katia. Bob was born in Manhattan, Kansas and spent most of his life in Southern California. He earned his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Cal Tech. Bob was an early leader in the aircraft navigation, missile guidance, computer, and technology industries. He earned numerous patents in a variety of disciplines for the companies he worked for. Later in life, he became a full professor at Cal State L.A., teaching electrical engineering and building a state-of-the-art electronics laboratory for his students. Bob loved to listen to and play music his entire life. He played clarinet in the Navy jazz band and later in community bands. He was an active member of the Pasadena Crown City Chorus for many years. Bob loved to travel, riding a motorcycle through Europe soon after World War II, and visiting Albania when it was still fairly closed to outsiders. As a private aviator, he owned and flew many small planes. Bob was curious to the very end about people, places, and things. His zestful approach to life included his converting two old school buses into campers and leading his children on many unscripted adventures throughout the American West. Bob was a beloved father and grandfather. He will be fondly remembered and sorely missed. Private memorial only. Thanks for the good wishes of those who knew Bob.
