Robert Conwell Shapiro Obituary
December 19, 1973 - September 22, 2015 Robert, our loving son, brother, uncle and nephew, passed away on September 22, 2015. Robert was born in Los Angeles. Robert attended Warner Avenue Elementary School, Brentwood School, and graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 1997. He began a career in the entertainment management field. After several years, Robert found his true passion, cooking, for which he had a tremendous gift. He studied culinary arts at the Cordon Bleu Pasadena, California. He went on to work at Contemporary Catering and later at several notable Los Angeles restaurants, including Mozza/Chi Spacca and Superba Food and Bread. He created many delicious dishes. At Mozza, his "garlic knots" remain on the menu. Through his cooking, he was able to take the ordinary to the extraordinary and unusual. Whether catering, at a restaurant or at home, his plates were artistic and beautiful. His food was an expression of his love, passion, talent and generosity. Robert also had a love for sports and fitness. He was always a loyal Dodger, UCLA, and St. Louis Rams fan and anticipated with hope the Rams return to Los Angeles. He lettered in both baseball and football in high school, and at UCSB he developed his passion and skill for golf. With his low handicap, he enjoyed many days on golf courses and country clubs throughout California and Hawaii. He also had a passion for fitness. In the past years you could often find him at the gym or running the streets of Los Angeles. He recently completed the Los Angeles Marathon and the Tough Mudder, unexpectedly placing seventh in his group of several hundred. Robert was a true friend, brilliant, funny, witty, and so handsome. But Robert also had his struggles that ultimately took him from us. Robert leaves his loving parents, Libby and Norm Shapiro, sister, Melissa (Jason Ovadia), nephew Rexford, and aunts and uncles, Ralph Shapiro and Karen Parsons, Jenna and Robert Hall, and cousin Andrew. We will all miss him tremendously. He leaves a void in our lives. He will forever be in our hearts. We hope he is now at peace.
