Robert David Tolchin Obituary
June 1, 1937 - September 16, 2016 Robert David Tolchin of Woodland Hills, beloved husband of Judith Tolchin and adored brother of Stephen Tolchin, died on Sept. 16, 2016 after a 4-year struggle with kidney and liver disease. Originally from the Bronx, N.Y., he was the son of Etta and Harry Tolchin, both now deceased. He came to Los Angeles in 1960 to get his Master's Degree in Economics at UCLA, where he met his future wife. They married in 1961, and lived thereafter in the Los Angeles area. After completing his M.A., he worked for the City of Los Angeles for several months. Eventually he joined Douglas Aircraft and was trained as a computer programmer at a time when that occupation was in its infancy. His 35-year career included employment at System Development Corp., Informatics, Inc., and Abacus Programming Corp., designing computer systems for a variety of local businesses and some government agencies. He will be remembered by his family, and his many friends and colleagues for his intelligence, his ever-present playful sense of humor, his appreciation for college football and basketball, his love of classical music and his devotion to science fiction novels. He also had a fondness for New Yorker cartoons and an enthusiasm for driving trips, traveling several times across the U.S. and Canada and through England, France, Belgium, and Italy. You left us far too soon, Robbie, and you will be sorely missed by all of us who loved you!
