Robert E. Williams Ph.D. Obituary
June 1925 - July 2015 Robert E. Williams passed away on July 11, 2015, at age 90. He grew up in Greencastle, Indiana, where his father was a speech professor at DePauw University. Bob spent time in Germany as part of the occupation forces following World War II. He returned to DePauw to complete his college work and then attended the University of New Mexico to acquire his Ph.D. in chemistry. He was well known for his work in the field of boron chemistry, specializing in carboranes. His ability to recognize patterns in molecules and his sense of humor were his hallmarks. He enjoyed a good joke and pulled many on others. He was President of Chemical Systems Inc., which produced reverse osmosis membranes and later became part of Puropore. He was a Senior Fellow at the Loker Hydrocarbon Institute at the University of Southern California from 1979, and enjoyed working with Drs. George Olah and G. K. Prakash. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Barbara, sons Randy (Amber) and Craig, twin granddaughters Evelynn and Madilynn, and sister Dorothy Venning. A Celebration of Life will be held on July 25, 2015, at 2 pm at the Pavilion at Freedom Village, Lake Forest, California.
