Robert Gotthoffer Obituary
July 3, 1922 - January 17, 2018 Robert passed away peacefully at the age of 95 at his home in Hermosa Beach, CA. He was born in New York City and attended Stuyvesant High School; with plans to be an engineer. He had played trumpet since childhood and decided instead to pursue a career in music. He was accepted at Juilliard School of Music, where he met his wife Catherine. Robert joined the Navy to serve in WWII, and after the war the couple relocated to Dallas where they both played in the Symphony for eight seasons. They came to Los Angeles and achieved successful studio careers. Bob began selling cars as a sideline, eventually becoming a manager and then a partner in a Chevrolet dealership in the Antelope Valley. He retired 40 years ago; enjoying golf, sailing, travelling, playing cribbage and spending time with his friends and family. "Easy Bob" will be missed by many. He was predeceased by his wife of seventy years, Catherine; survived by his children Ann and Richard, grandchildren Rachel, Jason, Russell and Samuel, and great-grandchildren Katherine and Isabelle. No service or memorial is planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Juilliard School of Music or the LA Chapter of the American Harp Society.
