January 7, 1941 - April 17, 2016 Robert H. McNeill, Jr. - affectionately known as "Bob" - was born in Smithfield, NC, and a resident of Pasadena, CA. A graduate of Virginia State College and Southwestern Law School, Bob co-founded Ivie, McNeill & Wyatt (IMW), California's largest African American-owned law firm. Prior to IMW, he served as a Deputy City Attorney for the City of Los Angeles and as a Deputy District Attorney for the County of Los Angeles. During his outstanding and versatile legal career, Bob successfully litigated cases in federal and state courts in a wide range of practice areas. He served as co-counsel in litigation involving a multimillion-dollar health care class action lawsuit which changed the terms of insurance coverage on behalf of insured men and women in California. Bob served on numerous influential city and county boards and commissions and garnered much recognition for his stellar work in the legal community. With all of his professional accomplishments, love of family came first, closely followed by his love of golf. Bob was known for his gentle, loving spirit, his sense of humor, his dedication to excellence, and his uncapped generosity to family and friends alike. Robert H. McNeill, Jr. is preceded in death by his parents and one brother. He is survived by seven siblings, his loving wife of 35 years, Debra; four children, four grandchildren, one great granddaughter, and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made payable to Southwestern Law School Attn: Robert H. McNeill, Jr. Scholarship Fund and Brotherhood Crusade Attn: Robert McNeill Fund.
