Robert Shutan Obituary

SHUTAN, Robert H. Born May 12, 1918 in Chicago, IL. Father Arthur Joe Shutan; mother: May Flower Shutan. Graduate of Hyde Park High School, Chicago. Moved to Los Angeles in 1935; graduated UCLA (B.S.) 1939. In 1942 received J.D. from Boalt Hall, Berkeley, and immediately reported for active duty with the Navy. After completion of training was on continuous duty as a deck officer of the USS Dempsey (DE26) in primarily antisubmarine warfare in the South and Central Pacific, until the end of the war. Admitted to the California Bar January, 1942, while in uniform. Practiced law in the Los Angeles area from 1946 until retirement in 1990. Specialized in the field of bankruptcy and corporate reorganization. Mr. Shutan was one of the two founders of the firm of Shutan & Trost. In June of 1980 Shutan & Trost was consolidated with the Chicago-based, international firm of Sidley and Austin, to become the Los Angeles office of Sidley, and moved into full range business practice.
Mr. Shutan is survived by his wife of 11 years, Georgia Franklin Shutan, of Marina del Rey, by his son Peter Shutan of Altadena, California, a Deputy Los Angeles City Attorney, Gang Division, and by his daughter, Anne Shutan, of Boulder, Colorado, a wood artist. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 9, 2008, 1:00 p.m.

Our deepest - deepest condolences. Bob was an amazing person, and we truely enjoyed the occasions we would chat. We remember so well his Birthday party, where Bob was cheerfully the center of attention. If there's anything you need or want help with, please call us.
