Robert Hakes Palmer Obituary
Robert Hakes Palmer, 91, was born on March 15, 1924 in Los Angeles. He spent his early years in California until his teen years when the family moved to the Philadelphia area. He graduated from The Haverford School, Class of '42 and entered the University of Pennsylvania, enlisting in the Army shortly thereafter. He spent the next three years in the battles of Italy and was awarded 3 Bronze Star Medals for bravery under fire. When World War II ended, he returned to the University of Pennsylvania to graduate in Pre-Med Studies. While there he was on the Varsity Crew. After Penn, he continued his medical studies at Temple University School of Medicine where he met and married his classmate, Rita Haeberlin. They were married upon their graduation in 1952. After graduation, they left for Internships in Los Angeles. He completed his Internship at the Los Angeles County Hospital and his Residency at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Internal Medicine. He entered private practice in Internal Medicine at the Good Samaritan Hospital where he practiced for 49 years. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Rita, sons and daughters, Robert Jr. (Johanna), Mark (Danita), Elizabeth, and Suzanne Palmer (Daniele Facchini) and 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to The Good Samaritan Hospital, Los Angeles in the memory of Robert H. Palmer, MD.
