Robert "Mickey" Heyes Obituary
August 19, 1946 - January 24, 2016 After a courageous battle with COPD, Mickey left this world, creating a huge void in the lives of many friends and family members. Born in Los Angeles and raised in Monterey Park, Mickey graduated from Montebello High in 1964. He served in the Air Force, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant, and in 1974 graduated from Cal State Long Beach. He worked for most of the next 40 years in rock 'n' roll road crews, touring the world with the Eagles, Yes, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, and other top-tier bands. For the last 20-plus years, Mickey worked as assistant tour manager and personal assistant to Billy Joel. Between tours, he coached student golfers at Long Beach City College. Mickey is survived by his sister, Nancy Eileen Heyes of Raleigh, NC, her husband, Robert Waters and their sons, Jeremy and Christopher, along with aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. In honor of Mickey's lifelong affinity with animals, donations can be made to SPCA Los Angeles, 7700 E. Spring St., Long Beach, CA 90815, or to the animal rescue group of your choice.
