Robert Jackson Drasnin

Obituary Condolences

November 17, 1927 - May 13, 2015 Bob Drasnin was a musician for all seasons. He was a master of all genres: swing, jazz, classical, exotica. He performed in big bands and combos on clarinet, sax and flute --- Les Brown, Tommy Dorsey and Red Norvo among them. His journey took him from dance halls to the Hollywood Palladium, from campuses and clubs to Carnegie Hall. He was a composer with a Master's degree in Music Composition from UCLA where he also was assistant conductor for the symphony orchestra, and where he later taught writing music for film. For many years he was the director of music at CBS. His list of credits would fill a column on this page. He was born in Charleston, West Virginia and inducted into the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame. A graduate of Thomas Starr King Junior High, LA High, and UCLA, he was an avid follower of tennis and the Bruins. He is survived by his wife, Marlena, three children --- Morgen, Jenny, and Michael --- and his most fortunate and grateful kid brother.
