Robert James Cooper Obituary
January 8, 1924 - July 21, 2016 Robert "Bob" James Cooper died peacefully at home in Newport Beach on July 21st at the age of 92. The youngest child of James Andrew Cooper and Maude Eleanor Wilde Cooper, he was born in Williston, ND, on 8 January 1924. After moving with his family to Los Angeles, Bob would attend Fairfax High School, and made lifelong friends in the Athenians Club. He served the Navy with distinction in the Pacific theater as deck officer aboard the minesweeper Surfbird. Graduating in 1947 from Occidental College with a BA in History, he married his college sweetheart, Elizabeth "Betty" Annette Colwell. As owner of the Wm Lane Company he supplied sporting goods to teams in the greater Los Angeles area and relocated to Orange County. Bob lost his wife of 38 years in 1987. At a grief support group he met his future life companion, Mrs. Loretta Baker. As MC for Loretta's dance group, the Happy Hoofers, he performed in the Orange County region for 20 years. Bob is survived by his loving daughters, Dr. Tracy Elizabeth Cooper (Mrs Timothy Wardell), professor at Temple University, and Dr. Katie Cooper (Mary Kathleen), administrator at Napa State Hospital, and her children Andrew Cooper Loutey and Dana Elizabeth Loutey. Memorial services will be held at Pacific View Chapel, Corona Del Mar, on Saturday 3 September at 10:00am, with lunch to follow at 12:00 noon at the American Legion in Newport Beach, where he was a lifetime member. Donations to the City of Hope are welcome in his name.
