Robert "Bob" Johnstone In Memoriam
July 26, 1928 - November 3, 2015 Born in Pasadena, California to George and Margaretta; Bob passed away in Pomona on November 3, 2015, preceded by his wife, Joy, of 65 years, in 2014. He's survived by children, Jim, Steve, Carol and Betsy. An amazing legacy is left to his grandchildren: Tracy, Brook, Nicholas, Lindsey, Jenna, Shawn, and Caitlin, and eight great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sisters, Josephine Gross, Dorothy Cooper and sister-in-law, Paula Burns. Bob is most noted for his craftsmanship. In his 20's he began building a Dutchman sailboat at home while working for Signal Oil in Long Beach. He later built smaller vessels in his spare time. Bob and Joy owned BJ's Park Hardware in Long Beach in the 1960's. In later years, Bob retired his wood shop and honed his skills as an artist. He enjoyed participating in the Del Mar Faire art exhibits, winning numerous awards over the years. Dozens of his paintings are displayed in homes of family and friends across the country. One of his most noted works of art hangs at the Scripps Institute in San Diego. A private remembrance will be held at Lake Tahoe in June.
