Robert LaVern Downing Obituary
November 20, 1929 - November 18, 2016 Robert (Bob) LaVern Downing, of Duarte, CA, passed away in Coeur d'Alene, ID, on November 18th, 2016 surrounded by family. He was affectionately known as Rotten Robert. Robert was born on Nov. 20th, 1929 to Vern and Bernice Downing in Waukon, IA. He was the oldest of 6 children. After high school Robert joined the Marine Corps and was discharged in 1950. He met his wife shortly after and they moved to Duarte, CA in 1951 where they have resided for 65 years. Robert was a successful business man for over 50 years in Monrovia, CA. His hobbies included hunting and fishing for 25 summers in Polson, Montana. He was an active member of the Lions Club for 30 years. He will be remembered as a child at heart, constantly and playfully picking on those around him, a lover of cookies, and a wonderful husband/father/grandfather/friend to all. Robert now joins his brother Gary, his daughter Regina and her husband Jim and their son Jimmy (Beau). He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Kathryne, and their three sons Robert Jr. (wife Cheryl), William (Shawna), and Mark (wife Robin). He is also survived by 8 grandchildren Robert III, Jamie, Barbara, Jonathan, Eric, Charlie, Marjorie, and Stephanie, 13 great-grandchildren, his three brothers Neil, William, Dean, and his sister Darlene. Services will be held on December 10th, 12:30 pm at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 122 S. California Ave., Monrovia, CA. Private graveside services will be held at Live Oak Memorial Park, 200 E. Duarte Rd., Monrovia, CA.
