Robert Louis Edwards Obituary
August 12, 1929 - November 24, 2016 On November 24, 2016, our beloved "Bikerbobb," aka Robert (Bob) Edwards, rode off on his final ride. Bob died on Thanksgiving at the home of his daughter, with family by his side. Diagnosed a mere 8 weeks ago with cancer, he fought his battle with grace, strength and dignity. Those who know him would have expected no less. What a great guy he was. Whether riding with his bike club buddies, traveling in Europe or South America, camping, fixing things or spending time with family and friends, he was a man people loved to be around. Among many things, he will be missed for his sharp sense of humor, quick wit and easygoing disposition. Bob was born August 12, 1929 in Beaver County, Pennsylvania. As one of five siblings, raised on a farm, his strong work ethic began at an early age. After graduating from high school, Bob joined the United States Army in September 1947 and served his country until his honorable discharge in July 1950. Following his discharge, Bob put himself through Geneva College earning a degree in industrial engineering. After college, he worked his way up to an executive position with Alcoa Aluminum where he remained until his retirement in 1986. Once retired, he became certified in tax return preparation and volunteered at the senior center during tax season for 20 years. While at Geneva, Bob met and fell in love with the beautiful Jean Craig. Those dimples...she had him at hello and from then on there was no other. Married 61 years, he lost his beloved in 2013 to Parkinson's disease. Bob cared for Jean with complete devotion for the last years of her life. Bob and Jean had three children: Laurel, Linda and Rob. The family resided in Berea, Ohio until 1967 when they moved to West Covina, CA. A dedicated father, he taught them to love the outdoors, snow ski, camp, work hard, save some, spend some, invest, check Consumer Guide before you buy anything and always make sure you keep your car serviced! His spirit is carried on by his children: Laurel Ayoob (John), Linda Blumenthal (Glen), Robert Edwards (Paige). Grandchildren: Garrett Blumenthal, Jackie Blumenthal, Michael Ayoob, Dana Ayoob, Kari Ayoob, Devon Edwards, Alex Edwards. Siblings: Mary Katherine (Katie) Miles, Frank Edwards (Donna), William (Bill) Edwards. He is preceded in death by his brother Roland Edwards, his sister-in-law Stevie Edwards and his brother-in-law Walter Miles. A celebration of Bob's life will be held at the family home in West Covina on Sunday, December 18 at 1:30 p.m. For more information call: (619) 851-6999. In lieu of flowers, please get on your bike, go for a ride or go for a walk, breathe the air, bask in the sunshine...and remember Bob. He will be missed more than words can express.
