Robert Milton Doumakes

Obituary Condolences

A true gentleman has ascended. Robert Milton Doumakes, of Los Angeles, passed away on August 9, 2015 of cancer.
Born to Greek immigrant parents, James and Maria Doumakes, in Los Angeles on March 24th, 1927, he attended Dorsey High School, graduating in 1945. Immediately thereafter, Bob enlisted in the Coast Guard to join the war effort. He continued in the Navy Reserves as an officer.
Following the war, he graduated from UCLA in 1951 with a degree in Business. He was a member of Sigma Pi Fraternity.
He was married for 56 years to Edna May Hart who preceded him in death. Edna and Bob were childhood friends since the age of 8. Her twin, Eugene C Hart, was Bob's lifelong friend.
Bob joined the family marshmallow business, Doumak, Inc. and helped the company become the second largest manufacturer of marshmallows in the world. His successful business career also included acquiring the Abba-Zaba candy company.
After retiring at age 50, Bob invested in the stock market, which was a passion that continued throughout his life.
A highlight of Bob and Edna's retirement was their love for travel. They traveled extensively through Europe, the Soviet Union, Israel, and the Far East.
He led the family with dignity, respect, and responsibility. Many in the family frequently sought "Uncle Bob's" advice.
Bob is survived by his children: Andrea (Donald) Craig, Laurie (Jerry) Isaacson, Alexandra (Brad) Barrett , grandchildren: Timothy (Kerry) Yocke, John and Elizabeth Craig; Bobby, Joey, Michael, and Katie Isaacson; Christina, Patrick, and Matthew Barrett. Great grandsons: Liam and Chase Yocke. Sister-in-laws: Marie Hart and Jennie Doumak.
Services will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, August 15th, 2015, at St. Sophia Cathedral, 1324 S. Normandie Ave., Los Angeles 90006.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Sophia Cathedral-Endowment in honor of Robert Doumakes.
