Robert T. Johnson Obituary
September 5, 1925 - September 19, 2016 Robert T. Johnson, 91, of Valley Village, California, sadly died at home surrounded by his family on September 19, 2016. He is survived by his five children Pam Posner, Vicki Johnson (Frank Campos), David (Debbie) Johnson, Christy Johnson, and Bill (Jana) Johnson, and eight grandchildren, one great-grandson, and his beloved dog Annie. Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all. Bob grew up in Cordova, Nebraska and worked alongside his father John in construction. Following high school he enlisted in the US Army and served in Japan until 1946. He received his Bachelor of Science in Education with Distinction from the University of Nebraska, and Master of Arts from California State University Northridge. He was a committed educator and taught two years at Scottsbluff High School in Nebraska, and thirty-four years at Luther Burbank Jr. High School in California. Bob retired in 1988, but still had the itch to teach, so was a substitute for Rim of the World Unified School District in the San Bernardino Mountains. Bob married fellow Nebraskan Phyllis Rivers on August 6, 1950 and drove straight to Los Angeles! They wanted to head west to start a new life together. He lived in the Southern California area continuously since 1954 and spent the majority of his later years in Lake Arrowhead with Phyllis. Bob was an avid reader of non-fiction alongside a love of working with his hands and enjoying the out of doors. He will be laid to rest on Friday, September 30th at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills. Memorial donations may be made to the Southern Poverty Law Center https://donate.splcenter.org or the Union Rescue Mission http://urm.org/.
