Roberta Baily Huntley Obituary
December 5, 1928 - October 8, 2016 Roberta Baily Huntley of Pasadena, California, died on October 8, 2016 after a brief illness. She was 87. Born on December 5, 1928 to Hilda Claire Deschamps Baily and Robert Wesley Baily, Roberta grew up in Los Angeles and Taft, California, where she attended high school. Roberta graduated with a BA in Fine Arts from UCLA, where she met graduate student, Stirling "Sandy" Huntley. In 1950, they married and moved to Stanford University where Sandy pursued his Ph.D. in the Theater Department. They lived on the Stanford campus for 20 years before moving to Honolulu and then to Pasadena in 1970. Roberta (known as RoRo, to her family and many friends) was extraordinarily proud of her 65-year career as an interior designer. She continued designing up until a few weeks before her death. Known for only wearing black, white, gray and red, her sense of style was legendary. Roberta was a lifelong lover of contemporary art, theater, opera, symphony, movies and travelling the world. Roberta was deeply devoted to her family and legions of friends. Never without a smile on her face, she would brighten up any room into which she walked. She was a larger than life figure with boundless energy. Roberta's significant volunteer activities included serving on the boards of the Pasadena Art Alliance and the Fellows of Contemporary. Roberta is survived by her daughters Anne Ahrens (Paul) of Los Angeles and Elizabeth Algermissen (Steve) of Pasadena and five grandchildren, Josephine and Roberta Ahrens and Stirling, Gordon, and Robert Algermissen. She was predeceased by her husband, Sandy, and her sister Natalia Baily Stine. A celebration of life will be held on October 26th at 4pm at a private club in Pasadena at 520 S. Orange Grove Blvd. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Roberta's name to The Pasadena Art Alliance Endowment Fund, 464 E. Walnut St. Pasadena, CA 91101.
