Roger J. Harmon Obituary
May 19, 1925 - August 6, 2016 The youngest of George and Anita Harmon's four children, Roger James Harmon was born on May 19, 1925 . His early years were spent in Hollywood, California, where the family home was located. After graduating from Hollywood High School in 1943, Roger enrolled in UCLA. But with the onset of war, he enlisted in the US Naval Reserve, finally completing his college education with graduation from UCLA in 1948. It was at UCLA that Roger met his future wife, Margaret Ball, whom he subsequently married. Roger and Margaret remained together until her death in 2013. After college, Roger worked with his father in the family's paint and wallpaper store, Harmon and Peterson, in Los Angeles. He eventually took over the business, later turning the site into a modern warehouse for the Warner Tool Company. Roger was an extremely active man with diverse interests. Curiosity about the world he lived in was perhaps his outstanding characteristic. He skied, hiked, backpacked, and biked. With Margaret, he traveled extensively both abroad and in the US. He was passionate about nature and wilderness habitats, spending long hours in bird watching. Because of his dedication to the environment, Roger is leaving a legacy to support conservation, nature, animals and birds. A devout Catholic, he has also remembered multiple religious non-profit organizations. Roger died peacefully in his home on August 6, 2016, surrounded by his family, friends, and beloved dog, Kelly.
