1931 - 2015 Obituary Condolences
November 9, 1931 - September 4, 2015 Ronald Shigemi Okinaka Ron Okinaka, a longtime resident of Orange, CA, passed away on Friday, Sept 04, 2015 due to an unexpected illness. He was born on Nov. 9, 1931, in Bakersfield, CA. In 1942, he and his family were sent to a Japanese internment camp in Poston, AZ. After their release in 1945, Ron, his mother and brother lived with relatives in Fresno while his father worked in Los Angeles to establish a new home. The family joined him 2 years later. In 1951, Ron was drafted to the Korean War. He earned medals for his meritorious achievements as an Operations Draftsman. The accuracy and dependability of his sketches were instrumental to the combat success of his organization. This skilled talent continued throughout his successful career as an architect. During his retirement, he enjoyed golfing, fishing and being outdoors. He could always be seen working on his garden. He was always there for others, including his beloved cats and all animals in need. He is survived by his loving relatives, including nieces Cindy, Cheri & Clarice and extended family & friends. He is predeceased by his mother Herma, father George and brother Byron. On Thursday, Sept. 17, at 5:00-8:00pm, a visitation will be held at Shannon-Bryan Mortuary, 137 E. Maple, Orange, CA. On Friday, Sept. 18, 2015 at 11:00 am, a graveside service will be held at Rose Hill Memorial Cemetery, 3888 Workman Mill Rd (Gate10), Whittier, CA.
