Ronald Takeki Okawa Obituary
November 6, 1921 - November 5, 2016 Ron, one day shy of 95, died as he had lived: gently, kindly, surrounded by love, at home in Granada Hills. He was born in Pocatello, Idaho, the youngest of two children of immigrants Takeo and Kito Okawa. The Christian ministry of Ms. Maud Powlas shaped his faith and future; Ron and brother Chick lived with her in Salisbury, NC, where Ron attended local Catawba College. He received his BSME from University of Utah at Salt Lake City. There he met and married Afton, mother of his children. He resided in SoCal with a career in mechanical aerospace engineering. When not woodworking, bowling, or camping with family, Boy Scouts, or YMCA Indian Guides, he and family worshipped at Canoga Park Presbyterian. Later church homes were Cornerstone in Simi Valley and Granada Hills Community Church. Ron lost his father (1966), mother (1979), first wife of 33 years Afton (1981), brother Chick (1986), second wife Manuela (1998), eldest son Russ (2011), and third wife Gloria (2014). He leaves behind children Steve (Sue), Karen (David), Diana (Ron), and Paul (Hamida); six grandchildren Sarah (Justin), Katie, Tricia, Ian, Dillon, and Myles; great-grandchild Marli; niblings Clark and Caroline; four great-niblings Jena, Stephen, Yumi, and Hitomi. Memorial service Nov 17. For more info on service or donations to Jaia-En Children's Home in Kumamoto, email [email protected]
