Rosalie Simon Appel Obituary
August 15, 1911 - March 8, 2017 Rosalie Appel, age 105, died peacefully at home. A second generation Californian born in San Francisco to Leonie and Abraham Rosenbach, she was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, niece, cousin and friend. Rosalie's interesting life included her love of knitting with knitted treasures for her family and friends, and her volunteer work (into her 90's) included being a Grey Lady of the American Red Cross at Letterman Hospital during WWII, the PTA, March of Dimes, President of Wilshire Blvd. Temple Sisterhood, a volunteer at Cedars-Sinai and Desert Hospitals, and a member of Brandeis Women's Committee. Rosalie was predeceased by her first husband George Simon (1972), her second husband Alvin Appel (2001) and her son George Simon, Jr. (2011). She is survived by her son George's widow Barbara, son Lee Simon (Eve), daughter Valerie Gordon (Hilly) and stepdaughter Lana Shapiro. Rosalie also leaves 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Rosalie will be remembered for her kind and gentle ways. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Sunday, April 2nd at Mount Sinai Hollywood Hills.
