Rosalie Subrt "Dollie" Kay Obituary
May 12, 1925 - February 8, 2017 Rosalie Subrt "Dollie" Kay, 91, of Fairfield, VA, died February 8, 2017. She lived a very full life and always "did it her way." Born in Fox River Grove, IL, to Rose and Josef Huttag who emigrated from Czechoslovakia, Rosalie graduated from UCLA in 1966 and earned her California teaching credential a year later. She taught at Hobart Elementary in Los Angeles from 1968 to 1989. A woman of many interests and talents, Rosalie was an excellent cook, seamstress, a skilled woodworker, stained glass crafter, artistic painter, skier and equestrienne. A lover of adventure, Rosalie traveled throughout the USA, Canada, Mexico and Europe. For love of the horse, Dollie and daughter Rosalie Kathleen moved with 2 horses to Virginia in 2003 where Dollie had designed and built their Craftman-style home on 10 acres in Fairfield. Rosalie was predeceased by her husband, George W. Hamlin Kay; her brother, Joseph; and her sister, Blanche. Rosalie is survived by daughters Rosalie Kathleen of VA and Candace of Pasadena, CA; niece, Cathie Robertson, and nephew Jeffrey Traczyk. Rosalie Kathleen and Candace thank the caregivers at Shenandoah Valley Health & Rehab in Buena Vista, VA and Rockbridge Area Hospice for their kindness in caring for our Mom. Dollie's ashes will be cast to the California winds at a later time.
