Rose Marie Phelps Obituary
March 4, 1925 - March 14, 2017 Born: March 4, 1925 in Portland, Oregon. Died: March 14, 2017 in Calabasas, California. Ro Phelps, daughter of Elizabeth and John Merck, and sister to Kay Miller and Regina Mathis, passed away recently in Calabasas, California. Although she battled Alzheimer's disease for many years, she always maintained her sweet disposition and had a ready smile for everyone she encountered. She met her husband, Robert (who passed in 2013), while he was in the service and stationed in Oregon. Ro, as she insisted on being called, was always proud of her 4 children: Robert, Douglas, Thomas, and Patricia (since deceased), as well as her five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and we will all miss her tremendously. Mom was an incredible person, kind and caring, and was known for her amazing physical attributes. She was an avid golfer and hit prodigious drives off the tee, and also loved to play tennis and softball. She earned several team and individual trophies for her softball and golfing prowess and was a favorite among the people with whom she participated. She continued to play tennis into her mid-80s. Volunteer work was a high priority for Mom and she worked with developmentally challenged children, and in her later years in Phoenix cared for elderly residents who needed social contact or a meal to be delivered. She always put others ahead of herself. We will miss Mom tremendously. Her family members will agree that the most significant things she left us with were her devotion to her faith, her openness to all people, her love of nature, and her loving care for her family and friends. "Whatever humility, faith, and sense of humor our family has Mom was its source-along with her beautiful strawberry blond hair." From all of us to Mom, "Ich Liebe dich." (I love you.)
